I’m tired of people on Tumblr acting like school doesn’t teach you anything and that they only test your memory

I understand that parts of the education system are unfair, but you cannot say that nothing in school requires intelligence. People say that things like Maths and Science are pointless and they only test your memory but that’s not true; some of them require understanding and thinking for yourself and figuring out what you need to do to solve a problem. Things like Trig and Calculus seem pointless to you because you don’t want or need them, but there are lots of important jobs that require higher maths. If we didn’t have higher Maths we’d be stuck in the early 20th century.

I realise that you feel the school system is unfair, but don’t tell people that they’re not smart if they do well in school. Because they sure as hell are smart if they’re good in school. And people who don’t do good in school may still be smart, just not necessarily in the same way. People complain that there isn’t one single type of intelligence, but it’s quite hypocritical to say that only one type of intelligence counts and that’s the one you’re good at.

Sorry for rambling but it really gets on my nerves when people belittle school because it’s really not all that pointless.
